When using the Twinfix wall plate and eaves beam, what pitch angles can I glaze to?-
The 290 wall plate and 291 eaves beam allows you to position glazing bars at pitch angles ranging from 5° to 25°.
- How far apart should I install the Twinfix posts?

Twinfix posts should be installed no more than 3 metres apart.
- I understand how the 'F' profiles and side trims work, but what happens when I am glazing up against a side-wall? Does this mean I cannot use the profile?

Not at all. Simply turn the 'F' profile or side trim upside down, fix it to the side wall and flash over.
- Should 'U' profiles be fixed over the flutes at both the ridge and the eaves end?

Not necessarily, since the ridge end is usually flashed over. However, we always recommend that you put 'U' profiles on both ends because it gives the panel more stability.
- What width rafters do I require?

If you are using 10mm twinwall polycarbonate you could use our P501 system with 50mm wide rafters. If you are using 16mm polycarbonate or more then the P261 or P306 system would be best. Rafters will be 60mm wide.
- What if I have purlins installed and not rafters?

Depending on how far apart the purlins are placed it may be that our 226/7 system is suitable. Contact us if you require more help.
- You supply in 3m, 4m and 6m lengths, can I buy other bar lengths?

As our aluminium bars are extruded, we can supply you with a special length of bar. However, minimum quantities may apply.
- What are the RAL colour references of the Twinfix bars?

Twinfix supply glazing bars and accessories off the shelf in polyester powder coated satin finish White RAL9910 and Brown RAL8040. Mill finish is also available which means we can paint to any specified RAL or BS colour although a minimum quantity and a surcharge may be applicable. Not all Twinfix systems are available in mill, white and brown, see below.
- Which bars are supplied in these colours?

The 226/261, 226/227 and 280/283 are all available in the mill finish, white and brown. The 306/261 and 500/501 are supplied in white and brown only and the 600 system in white only.
- Are Twinfix glazing bars only suitable for use with multiwall polycarbonate?
-
No. You can also use them to glaze roofs with solid polycarbonate, glass or even double glazed units. However, when using glass or glazed units you should install a mechanical end plate instead of the usual Twinfix end plate. The only exception to the rule is our 600 system which is only suitable for use with multiwall polycarbonate.
- Can Twinfix glazing systems be used on flat roofs?

No. Standard Twinfix glazing systems require a minimum pitch of 5°, whilst our Multi-Link-Panel system requires a 10° pitch or more. If you have a flat roof then you would be better looking at one of the Twinfix roof domes.
- How strong is multiwall polycarbonate?

Despite being light in weight (2.7kg per sqm with a 16mm thickness), multiwall polycarbonate is over 200 times stronger than glass.
- Will multiwall polycarbonate go yellow?
-
No. There is a protective surface treatment on multiwall polycarbonate which forms a barrier against the degrading effects of UV radiation.
- What about fire ratings?

Multiwall polycarbonate is classified as being 'self-extinguishing' and complies with most European standards, including BS476 Part 7 and Part 6.
- What are the benefits in choosing a thicker sheet of multiwall polycarbonate?

The thicker the sheet the wider you can take your glazing bar centres, meaning you need fewer rafters and glazing bars to join sheet together. Also, thicker glazing sheets give you better heat and sound insulation.
- Is multiwall polycarbonate difficult to cut?
-
No, but it's even easier if we cut it here for you in our factory. We cut it to the required size, blow the flutes free of dust, tape the ridge end of the panel with blanking tape, and tape the eaves end with anti-dust breather tape. However, if you want to cut the sheet yourself we can advise you on the best way to do it.
- What colours are available?

We can supply you from stock with clear, opal and bronze tinted polycarbonate. There are also more specialised grades available including opal/bronze, Heatshield and Venetian. We can advise you on the best type of tint for your application.
- I understand that polycarbonate expands with an increase in temperature, what effect will this have?

We always allow a margin of 20mm on the width of each sheet to compensate for any thermal expansion at the central element of the rafter gasket or glazing bar base. For example, if you require a roof 5 metres wide and intend to use 16mm polycarbonate, you should set your rafters/bars at 1m centres and we would supply you with sheets at 980mm wide.
- Which colour tape goes at the top and bottom of the sheet?

White at the ridge (blanking tape), grey at the eaves (anti-dust breather tape).
