A huge canopy now covers over 91 sq m of old playground at Town Farm
Nursery school children at Town Farm Primary School in Stanwell, Middlesex, now have a new, huge outside play area. The bespoke free-standing duo-pitched canopy manufactured by Twinfix, covers an area of over 91m² and has polycarbonate roof glazing that protects the children from UV and IR in the sun's rays.
The aluminium structure, polyester powder coated in white, was delivered to the school ready to bolt together and then Twinfix Multi-Link-Panels, fitted with 16mm multiwall polycarbonate glazing, were fitted on the framework to form the roof. The unusual design over sails the school roof, and projects more than 8 metres from the building. It drops into a valley gutter some 5 metres out and then rises again to over 3 metres in height at the outside edge. This enables the children to play on their climbing frame and still be under cover.
Installed by Coverall Systems of Luton, the canopy has a side screen across half of one elevation, to help prevent draughts blowing through the nearby classroom door. This allows the door to be left open during the day and facilitates easy access for the children's sand and water play.
As part of the project Coverall Systems removed an old, existing canopy and left the site spick-and-span ready for the children to use. Says Headteacher Mrs Koops, "We are delighted with our canopy. So many people have admired it, it's really marvellous."
As well as being used for canopies Multi-Link-Panels have a super fit in replacing Georgian wired glass in old corridor roofs. Multi-Link-Panels are manufactured to size and are available in 16mm and 25mm thickness.
