If you want to fix multiwall polycarbonate glazing on to a roof without installing rafters then you need to use one of our structural glazing bar systems. Some of these systems can also be used for installing polycarbonate, both multiwall and solid, in vertical applications.
We have systems capable of spanning up to 4000mm between fixing points. Our P288, P280, P284 and P227 systems are also suitable for securing glass, although spans and centres would be greatly reduced.
The P280, P288 and P227 aluminium bar systems are supplied pre-packed in 3 metre and 4 metre lengths. Each pack contains a length of aluminium glazing bar cap, an aluminium base with glazing gasket pressed in and a screw fit end plate. The P284 and P288U systems have an additional uPVC thermal underclad fitted to a mill finish aluminium base. All our aluminium caps are fixed to their base bars with stainless steel screws in order to securely hold the polycarbonate glazing in place.
P280, P284, P288 and P227 systems can also be supplied in 6 metre lengths as loose items.
The P600 system is supplied in 2.5 metre, 3 metre, 3.5 metre and 4 metre pre-packed lengths only and consists of a mill finish aluminium base bar with white uPVC thermal underclad fitted, a white uPVC snap-fit cap and a screw fit end plate.
With the exception of the P600 system that is available in white only, our aluminium structural glazing bars are supplied in mill finish, white and brown. The mill finish bars can be powder coated to any specified RAL colour. However, please note that we can only supply the uPVC thermal underclads in white or brown.
Our short span or cross purlin aluminium glazing bar system. The P227 system will span up to 1400mm between fixing points when glazing with multiwall polycarbonate. Suitable for glazing materials up to 25mm in thickness.
The P227 system is also suitable for glass units up to 24mm thick. However, when glazing with glass a mechanically fixed end plate should always be used at the end of each bar to retain the glass securely in place.
The P280 aluminium glazing bar system will span up to 3200mm between fixing points when glazing with multiwall polycarbonate. Suitable for glazing materials up to 25mm in thickness. If used in an application with enclosed sides, we recommend the P284 system in order to avoid condensation forming on the base bar.
The P280 system is also suitable for glass units up to 24mm thick. However, when glazing with glass a mechanically fixed end plate should always be used at the eaves end of each bar to retain the glass securely in place.
Just like the 280 system, the P284 aluminium glazing bar system will span up to 3200mm between fixing points when glazing with multiwall polycarbonate. Suitable for glazing materials up to 25mm in thickness. The P284 system is supplied with a mill finish base bar and a uPVC thermal underclad in either white or brown. This is the system to use when installing a roof with enclosed sides, as the use of the PVCu underclad helps to prevent condensation forming on the base bar.
The P284 system is also suitable for glass units up to 24mm thick. However, when glazing with glass a mechanically fixed end plate should always be used at the eaves end of each bar to retain the glass securely in place.
The P288 aluminium glazing bar system is designed for installing 25mm multiwall polycarbonate glazing at 1250mm centres and 24mm double glazed glass units at 600mm centres. If used in an application with enclosed sides, we recommend the P288U system in order to avoid condensation forming on the base bar.
This system will span up to 4000mm unsupported when glazing with multiwall polycarbonate and 2600mm when glazing with 24mm units. When glazing with glass a mechanically fixed end plate should always be used at the eaves end of each bar to retain the glass securely in place.
The P288U system has the same properties as the P288 (above), i.e. it will span up to 4000mm unsupported when glazed with 25mm multiwall polycarbonate at 1250mm centres, and 2600mm when glazed with 24mm glass units at 600mm centres. The P288U system is supplied with a mill finish base bar and a uPVC thermal underclad in either white or brown (not shown on drawing to the right). This is the system to use when installing a roof with enclosed sides, as the use of the underclad helps to prevent condensation forming on the base bar.
When fitted with the 288GC glass carrier (as shown to the right) this system can also be used to install 6mm glass.
As with all our systems, when glazing with glass a mechanically fixed end plate should always be used at the eaves end of each bar to retain the glass securely in place.
The P600 system is our lean-to, economy system with a push-fit cap. The 600 system will span up to 3000mm between fixing points when glazing with multiwall polycarbonate. It is supplied complete with a PVCu thermal underclad and is available in white only. It is suitable for 16mm and 25mm polycarbonate only.
The P600 system cannot be used with glass, nor do we recommend it for vertical applications.
