Project Overview

Godmanchester Community Academy in Cambridgeshire recently reconfigured its Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision to better support child-led exploration and modern teaching methods. The school relocated both EYFS classes into the former music hall, enabling children to move freely between indoor and outdoor areas.

To fully realise this new layout and ensure year-round access to outdoor space, the school required a high-quality, durable canopy solution that supported safe, flexible and engaging learning environments.

Twinfix’s Role in Supporting Godmanchester Community Academy’s Vision

Working in partnership with Andy Knott Construction, Twinfix designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke Fabricated Lean-To Canopy. Measuring 2.4m × 15m, the canopy was engineered to create a seamless transition between classroom and outdoor learning space.

The structure incorporated Twinfix’s Multi-Link-Panel Non-Fragile (NF) roofing system, glazed with 16mm opal polycarbonate. This solution provides diffused daylight while reducing glare and solar gain, making it particularly well-suited to young children’s eyes and play-based learning.

The robust aluminium frame was powder coated in RAL 6005 Moss Green, delivering both long-term weather protection and a finish that complements the surrounding landscape.
