Platform Walkways

Twinfix platform walkways provide safe, weather-protected pedestrian routes across rail environments, supporting the smooth, compliant movement of passengers, staff and contractors. Designed, manufactured and installed in the UK, our walkway solutions are engineered to perform in demanding operational settings, delivering long-term reliability, safety and architectural consistency across live rail sites.

From busy mainline stations to depots and stabling yards, platform walkways play a vital role in maintaining accessibility and operational efficiency. Twinfix works closely with Network Rail, principal contractors and rail consultants to create bespoke walkway systems that integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure while meeting the stringent requirements of the rail industry.

Designed for Safety, Compliance and Performance

Every Twinfix platform walkway is developed to support safe pedestrian movement within high-risk environments. Our systems are designed to accommodate heavy footfall, variable loading and challenging weather conditions, whilst maintaining full compliance with relevant British Standards and Network Rail specifications.

Slip-resistant decking, integrated handrails, anti-trip detailing and clear sightlines all contribute to a safer user experience. Where required, walkways can also incorporate controlled access points, lighting and drainage solutions, ensuring year-round usability and reduced maintenance risk.

Twinfix’s in-house technical team works at design stage to ensure that all loads, spans and interfaces with surrounding structures are carefully considered, helping to mitigate risk and simplify approvals.

Engineered for Rail Environments

Rail infrastructure presents a unique set of challenges, including restricted access, live operational areas and complex ground conditions. Twinfix platform walkways are engineered to be installed efficiently, minimising disruption to rail services and site activity.

Our engineered aluminium framework provides high strength with minimal self-weight, helping to reduce foundation demands and streamline installation. When combined with robust polycarbonate roofing and integrated side protection, the result is a durable, low-maintenance system engineered for long-term performance and reduced whole-life cost.

Where walkways are required to span tracks, service routes or uneven ground, Twinfix provides bespoke structural solutions that ensure stability, safety and compliance without compromising station aesthetics.

Colours & Coatings

Clear Polycarbonate

Clear polycarbonate provides maximum natural light, creating bright and open canopy spaces.

Opal Polycarbonte

Opal polycarbonate diffuses natural light, reducing glare while maintaining a bright and comfortable covered space.

Georgian Wired Polycarbonate

Twinfix offers a solid polycarbonate alternative that replicates the traditional Georgian wired appearance while delivering far greater durability, impact resistance and reduced weight.

Obscure Polycarbonate

Obscure polycarbonate provides diffused light while maintaining privacy, making it ideal for areas where discretion is required.

Standard RAL Powder-coating

Twinfix structures are finished with high-quality polyester powder coating, available in the full RAL range to complement any architectural scheme.

Glazing Integrity and Specification

All Twinfix platform walkway glazing systems are designed in accordance with ACR[M]001:2019, the recognised guidance for specifying polycarbonate rooflights and glazing in public buildings.

Where required, Twinfix incorporates Georgian wired polycarbonate within roof and side glazing, providing controlled break behaviour and enhanced security in high-risk rail environments. This ensures that glazing remains stable and predictable, helping to protect people, assets and operations below.

By combining certified polycarbonate with our proprietary aluminium glazing systems, Twinfix delivers compliant, impact-resistant and long-lasting walkway enclosures aligned with Network Rail, insurer and building control expectations.

Integrated Canopy and Weather Protection

Twinfix platform walkways can be supplied as open or fully covered systems, providing protection from rain, wind and UV exposure. Covered walkways significantly improve passenger comfort and staff welfare, particularly on exposed platforms and interchange routes.

Using our proven canopy and glazing technology, Twinfix creates light, bright and welcoming walkways that maintain visibility and sightlines, while protecting users from the elements. High-performance polycarbonate roofing offers excellent impact resistance and long-term clarity, making it ideally suited to busy rail environments.
