Brise Soleil

The Twinfix Brise Soleil system provides a sophisticated approach to solar shading using a series of angled blades arranged horizontally or vertically. It is designed to reduce glare and solar heat gain, helping to improve internal comfort and energy efficiency while also enhancing the external appearance of commercial, educational, healthcare and retail buildings.

System Overview & Design

Brise Soleil systems use lightweight, rust-free aluminium frames fitted with aluminium blades in various shapes and sizes (flat or ellipsoid), typically between 75mm and 300mm in blade width. Blades are set at pitches and centres designed specifically for the project, giving flexibility to tailor shade levels and visual impact. By adjusting orientation and angle in line with the building’s location and solar exposure, Twinfix ensures each installation delivers maximum effect.

The frame and blade assemblies are powder-coated to any standard RAL colour so the structure blends with or complements architectural finishes. Primary fixings to support structures utilise stainless steel components, ensuring long-term durability.

Blade Types & Configurations

Blade options are designed to respond to different façade and sun exposure conditions:

  • Blade widths from circa 75mm up to 300mm, allowing fine control over sun penetration and shade depth
  • Choice of flat or ellipsoid blade shapes
  • Horizontal or vertical orientation depending on building design, sun angles and aesthetic goals
  • Customisable blade centres and pitch to balance light, shade and appearance

Cantilevered installations are possible up to approximately 2 metres projection, subject to support and environmental loading. Optional brace arms or tie rods can increase span capacity. Blade type and support spacing are carefully matched to wind load, height above ground and use case.

Materials & Finish

All structural components are manufactured from grade 6063 extruded aluminium (meeting British Standard BS 1474). The powder coating is applied in accordance with relevant standards (BS 6496 and BS EN 12206-1), ensuring a durable colour finish that resists weathering. Fixing hardware is selected for corrosion resistance, with stainless steel typically used for all critical fasteners and connectors. The result is a high-quality shading system that retains its appearance and function over many years.

Quality & Performance

The structural elements of Brise Soleil are UKCA marked in compliance with BS EN 1090-1, which covers execution of structural steel and aluminium frameworks. These certifications provide assurance of quality, load capacity, strength and durability — important in sectors where performance, safety and compliance cannot be compromised.

Integration & Application

Brise Soleil is suitable for both new-build and refurbishment projects, and can be installed on façades, over glazing or above walkways. It integrates effectively with roof glazing, aluminium panel systems and glazed façades.

Typical applications include schools, where glare can disrupt learning; commercial and retail environments, to improve comfort and reduce cooling demand; healthcare settings, where solar control supports patient wellbeing; and public buildings and transport hubs, where it helps manage solar gain while enhancing architectural design.
