Case Study – Mulberry Bear Day Nursery, Milton Keynes

Mulberry Bear Day Nursery

Mulberry Bear Nursery is situated on the Open University campus in Milton Keynes and provides care for babies and children of staff and students at the campus. They were looking at ways they could offer a more usable outdoor space for their children and babies.

The nursery already had an outside area with Wet Pour rubber flooring laid. This flooring is a safe rubber coating ideal for babies and children to crawl and play on. However the nursery said that it  gets warm in direct sunlight so the Nursery wanted some shade to provide an all year round outdoor space for the children.

After completing a site survey to discuss the requirements of the Nursery it was decided that a free standing Mono-Pitch canopy with timber posts would give an area of 4.75m long and projecting 4.5m. This structure required 4 foundation pots to be excavated and the structure erected to provide the nursery with the cover they required. The canopy was installed in September and now provides the nursery with a more comfortable outdoor area.

The Nursery now have a usable space for all weather conditions.

Job Description – Project Coordinator

Georgian wired polycarbonate goes from strength to strength

The innovative Georgian wired polycarbonate is a creation that we here at Twinfix we are very proud to have invented.  As a British manufacturer in operation for over 28 years we often see a need in the market place and we design a product to suit the need.  This is exactly how Georgian wired polycarbonate, one of our leading products, came to be invented.

This innovative glazing materials looks the same as Georgian wired glass, but it won’t break.  This durable and incredibly strong material is made from Makrolon, the highest quality of polycarbonate in the marketplace.  Years of testing went into its creation and the team at Twinfix are delighted with the finished product.  It is important when supplying glazing into roofing applications, many of them being public spaces such as railway stations and factories, that the best quality is used.  Our glazing sheet has completed the relevant safety test.  Combine this with our manufacturing experience and the use of the best quality polycarbonate available and we are confident that we are offering a far superior product to our imitators.

Joint MD Vicky Evans talks about the product:

With safety always at the top of our agenda we are proud of what our Georgian wired product has to offer.  It is virtually unbreakable, making it so much safer than traditional Georgian wired glass which will often crack in situ or break during transportation or installation.  Of particular advantage is its light weight, making it easier, safer and quicker to install.  We have tested our product to the relevant fire tests and it passes.  I think that although it is sometimes tempting to look for a product that is slightly cheaper in price this can sometimes result in an inferior quality product.  In my opinion it is not worth compromising on the quality of a product that is used in public spaces.

Education Estates 2017

Twinfix has been on a roll this year with its exhibition presence.  Last week saw a third appearance, this time at Education Estates at Manchester Central.

Education Estates specifically focuses on the funding, design, build, management and maintenance of educational premises across the UK.  This proved to be the perfect platform for Twinfix to promote its high quality range of canopies and roof glazing systems which are often specified in the education sector.

Director Vicky Evans was the face of Twinfix for the two-day event and thoroughly enjoyed meeting contacts old and new, as well as speaking to other exhibitors.
