Case Study – Tunbridge Wells Station

Tunbridge Wells station is situated in the idyllic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, the present station opened on the 25 November 1846 and the right side up is Grade ll listed.

When Twinfix were approached by GS Moore Roofing Contractors Ltd to restore the two platform canopies, one of the key requirements was to retain the historic look and feel of the station, while providing a glazing solution that was high quality and safe.

Twinfix have a wealth of experience restoring the platform canopies at historic stations throughout the UK. Their Georgian wired polycarbonate is a 6mm solid polycarbonate sheet with a dimpled surface that mimics Georgian wired glass, but it will not break in use.

The safety of people on roofs is of paramount importance and CDM regulations are very specific in advising designers and specifiers to design out any future possible dangers wherever possible. Specifying non-fragile rooflights helps them do that.

It was agreed that the innovative Multi-Link-Panel Non-Fragile (NF) glazed with Georgian wired polycarbonate would be an ideal fit for the refurbishment project at Tunbridge Wells.

In March 2021, the refurbishment was complete and 560 square metres of Twinfix Multi-Link-Panel NF glazed with Georgian Wired Polycarbonate had restored the platform canopies back to their former glory.

Twinfix Awarded Perfect Delivery Certificate

This week Twinfix was awarded with a Perfect Delivery Certificate by Main Contractor Morgan Sindall, for their involvement in the North Denes Primary School Project.

Twinfix designed, manufactured and installed a free-standing mono-pitch canopy spanning 70 square metres in September 2020.

We are delighted with this achievement and proud to have been part of this £7 million project which has  increased the school’s capacity to 420 pupils.

Wales Outdoor Learning Week

This week is #WalesOutdoorLearningWeek.

First held in 2019, the Week was created by the Wales Council for Outdoor Learning to encourage and inspire teachers, learning groups and families across Wales to embed outdoor learning within school and family life and reap its many benefits.

Evidence shows that it improves health and wellbeing – like guarding against obesity and reducing the symptoms of stress and ADHD. It is also good for the environment because it can help prevent the loss of environmental knowledge and encourages lifelong positive behaviours – helping us all to look after our world for the future.

Recent research also shows that learning outdoors can have a positive impact on individual and group performance, helping to improve core skills like problem solving and communication.

Over the years, we have helped schools to bring their learning and play outdoors with the installation of our canopies. Take a look at some of our recent installs across Wales:
