Twinfix Delivers Bespoke Rooflight Solution to Improve Passenger Experience at Coventry Station

Twinfix is proud to have partnered with Jamieson Contracting on the delivery of a key roof refurbishment at Coventry Station, providing a modern solution that enhances natural light, improves aesthetics, and future-proofs the structure for years to come.
Originally opened in 1962, Coventry Station is one of the finest surviving examples of post-war railway architecture in Britain. The station building is Grade II listed, recognised for its bold mid-century design and clean lines that reflect the modernist movement of the time. While the structure remains architecturally significant, parts of the building — including its rooflights — were in need of careful restoration to meet current performance standards.
As part of a wider programme of upgrades at the station, a total of 27 bespoke pyramid rooflights were installed, all glazed with 25mm multiwall polycarbonate — a durable, non-fragile material that offers superior safety performance while maintaining excellent light transmission. The new rooflights replace older units which had deteriorated over time and no longer provided sufficient natural lighting for the station concourse.
Working collaboratively with Jamieson Contracting, Twinfix supplied and manufactured a tailored rooflight system that not only met the structural and safety requirements of the site but also delivered a significant improvement to the station’s overall environment. The increased daylight now filtering through the concourse enhances visibility, creates a more welcoming atmosphere for passengers, and contributes to energy efficiency by reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
The project aligns with Coventry Station’s wider efforts to improve the passenger journey and modernise infrastructure without compromising on architectural integrity. The sleek pyramid-style rooflights provide a contemporary design element while remaining sympathetic to the station’s mid-century character.
Vicky Evans, Director at Twinfix, commented:
“We are delighted to have supported Jamieson Contracting on this important refurbishment at Coventry Station. Our non-fragile polycarbonate rooflight system provides a safe, sustainable, and visually impactful solution – one that improves both the day-to-day experience for passengers and the long-term performance of the building itself.”
As a British manufacturer with over 35 years’ experience in glazing and canopy systems, Twinfix continues to support the UK rail sector in delivering innovative, compliant and heritage-sensitive solutions across the network.

Enhancing Healthcare Infrastructure with Modular Canopy Solutions

Enhancing Healthcare Environments with Tailored Canopy Solutions

Twinfix Projects at Grange University Hospital and Harrogate District Hospital

At Twinfix, we design, manufacture, and install high-quality canopy systems that improve outdoor infrastructure across healthcare settings. From covered walkways and waiting areas to patient drop-off points and garden shelters, our canopies offer safe, accessible, and weather-protected spaces that support everyday operations in hospitals and medical facilities.

Meeting the Needs of Modern Healthcare Estates

The demands placed on healthcare environments continue to evolve, with estates teams seeking reliable, low-maintenance solutions that enhance patient care, support clinical delivery, and improve flow across sites.

Whether enabling safer movement between departments, creating outdoor waiting zones, or offering staff and visitors a sheltered place to pause, our canopies are engineered to provide both functional and aesthetic value. With fast installation and long-term performance, they are ideal for busy, live environments where time and continuity of care are critical.

Project Focus: Grange University Hospital, South Wales

Grange-hospital--27- Twinfix supplied and installed a 15m x 3.27m free-standing mono-pitch canopy for Grange University Hospital. Designed to provide a sheltered connection between key areas of the site, the structure is glazed with our ML16NF Multi-Link Non-Fragile system and features 16mm Exolon® multiwall polycarbonate panels.

This robust, UV-resistant canopy helps protect patients, staff, and visitors from the elements—ensuring continuity of access and contributing to a well-managed, professional hospital environment.

Twinfix on Challenge Anneka – A Moment in Time

Twinfix on TV: Our Role in Challenge Anneka’s Sulwath Transformation Celebrating 35 Years of Innovation and Impact

As we mark 35 years of Twinfix, we’re reflecting on the defining moments that have shaped our journey — and one of the most memorable dates back to 1994, when we were invited to take part in a unique project that aired on national television.

That year, Twinfix featured in an episode of the BBC’s Challenge Anneka, a programme renowned for tackling ambitious community projects against the clock. Hosted by Anneka Rice, the challenge focused on a remarkable transformation involving a 70-foot decommissioned trawler named Sulwath.

A Challenge at Sea (and on Land)

The brief? To move Sulwath from Holyhead, North Wales, to Millom, Cumbria, where she would be dry-docked and converted into an activity and playspace for children with disabilities, as part of a project led by The Harriet Trust.

With just 54 hours to complete the build, teams of contractors, tradespeople, and volunteers came together to overhaul the vessel inside and out — transforming it into a safe, welcoming environment for children to play, learn and socialise.

The Twinfix Contribution

Twinfix were brought in to design, supply and install glazed rooflights to bring natural light into the repurposed vessel. Working closely with the broader project team — including joiners, electricians, and accessibility specialists — our team delivered high-quality, fit-for-purpose roof glazing to support the transformation.

Despite the condensed timeline, the project was delivered successfully — and aired as part of Challenge Anneka’s sixth series. It remains a proud moment in Twinfix history.

“It was an unusual brief and a tight deadline, but the result proved what can be achieved when technical know-how meets a shared sense of purpose.” – Sarah Kench, Twinfix Director

Why It Still Matters

While the Sulwath project was unique, the underlying values continue to guide our business today:

  • Designing for functionality and inclusion
  • Delivering under pressure without compromising on quality
  • Collaborating with others to bring ideas to life

From education settings to transport infrastructure, we remain focused on creating safe, well-lit, and accessible spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

And yes — we still have the original photos, including a few taken with Anneka Rice and the BBC crew. A rare but welcome reminder that even the most complex builds can be delivered with clarity, speed and care when the right team comes together.

A Lasting Legacy

As we continue our anniversary reflections, the Challenge Anneka project reminds us of the importance of adaptability, social value, and building environments that make a difference. It’s a story we’re proud to share — and one that continues to reflect who we are today.
