Project Overview

At Twinfix, we understand the importance of creating positive first impressions, especially in healthcare environments where comfort and care are paramount. The goal was clear: design a canopy that would provide practical weather protection while contributing to a welcoming and modern environment for visitors.

Twinfix's Role in Enhancing the Patient Journey with a Modern Canopy Design

Twinfix’s Role in the Project

At North Cambridgeshire Hospital, the Children’s Services Department required an entrance that reflected the care, warmth, and professionalism expected in a healthcare setting. The hospital wanted a solution that would improve the patient and visitor experience, especially for families with young children, while also adding to the hospital’s overall aesthetic. Twinfix was tasked with creating a canopy that would meet these needs without compromising on durability or design. The result was a seamless blend of form and function that aligns with the hospital’s values of providing excellent care in a comfortable environment.

Project Overview

North Cambridgeshire Hospital approached us with a brief to create a canopy that would:

  • Offer reliable protection from the elements for hospital visitors and staff

  • Improve the overall appearance of the building’s entrance

  • Foster a positive experience for patients, particularly those visiting the Children’s Services Department

Twinfix’s solution was a free-standing mono-pitch canopy, combining durability with contemporary design. The structure was built to UKCA standards and features a robust aluminium frame and a polycarbonate roof system, allowing natural light to filter through while ensuring non-fragility. The canopy’s sleek powder-coated finish in RAL 7016 adds a modern touch, complementing the hospital’s architecture.

A standout design feature is the central timber soffit, crafted from warm cedar cladding. This natural material softens the overall appearance of the structure, introducing warmth and texture — ideal for a family-focused healthcare facility.

Outcome

The new canopy successfully enhances the entrance to the hospital’s Children’s Services Department, providing both practical and aesthetic benefits. The structure offers protection from the weather while ensuring that visitors feel welcomed and cared for from the moment they arrive. The timber soffit adds a human touch, creating a soothing and inviting atmosphere, perfectly suited to the needs of a healthcare environment.

Key Benefits

  • Weather Protection: The canopy provides essential shelter, improving the visitor experience regardless of the weather.

  • Aesthetic Appeal: The sleek design, coupled with the natural warmth of the cedar cladding, enhances the overall appearance of the hospital’s entrance.

  • Natural Light: The polycarbonate roof system allows natural light to filter through, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment.
